Job Summary

We are offering a unique opportunity to join our small but fast-growing team staff in Caerphilly as a Dispatch Operative and Customs Processor.

The contracted hours for this position are 40 (Monday to Friday—8:00 – 16:30) with an unpaid lunch break and the opportunity for overtime. The salary is £12.60 to £13.50 per hour, depending on experience. For the right candidate, there are opportunities for growth beyond this level.

The role primarily involves preparing and packing orders. We sell specialist laboratory equipment, so a high duty of care is needed in packing and handling orders. Depending on the product, various methods of shipping can be used.

Many of the orders are shipped internationally, so you will need to be comfortable using computers so that you can complete the necessary customs information. Documentation will include export licenses, EUR1 certificates and more – experience in this area is advantageous but not essential, just excellent computer skills and a desire to learn.

About the Role:

This position is a highly dynamic Dispatch Operative and Customs Processor role consisting of five key work areas:

1. Parcel packaging of fragile, specialist and unique products: Microscopes, glassware, antique items, precision weighing scales etc.

1. Pallet preparation for larger items: Laboratory Centrifuges, Incubators, Analytical or Engineering equipment.

1. Document processing – booking shipping labels, creating packing lists for international shipments, booking and arranging export licenses, emailing transport companies to arrange collections, managing stock systems, etc. Training will be provided for all, but competency with IT skills is essential.

1. Communications - internal communications between teams, including Sales and Warehouse teams. External communications with couriers and logistics networks, along with tracking email notifications to customers.

1. General warehouse operations when required – moving pallets, picking stock, loading vehicles etc. Whilst many of the products are fragile, they are also heavy, and the role is a physically demanding position requiring significant amounts of manual handling.

About You:

On a typical day, the successful candidate for this role may process 10+ orders, some of these will contain items that take over an hour to prepare properly for shipment. For a hard-working candidate who possesses a high degree of care and pride in their work, we can offer a unique role that is extremely dynamic and mentally engaging.

To fulfil the role, you must have a good level of IT skills and be highly motivated. We need someone keen to get orders out whilst also maintaining quality in the packing and quality control.

It is also important that you feel comfortable both working under direct supervision to meet targets, as well as self-motivating yourself when working independently.
