Description
This Beckman Coulter Biomek NXp Automated Liquid Handling Robot System was removed from a university lab where it was surplus to requirements.
The NXp has a 96-well pipetting head as well as carousel to allow storage of plates/tips/reagents etc. The robot is not climate controlled but it is enclosed in a safety cabinet The NXp requires tips purchased from Biomek for accurate pipetting. The instrument is connected to a PC running software to enable programming and scheduling and have been used extensively for (though not limited to) cell-based screening (cell plating, transfection, fixation and staining), including siRNA screens and for cell-free screening with small molecule libraries, in both 96-well and 384-well format.
The system is in good used cosmetic condition but it does have various marks from general use. One end piece appears to be missing from the shroud sensor strip of the NXp. This does not affect the operation of the unit.
All parts power up as they should and appear to operate as they should.
The system consists of:
1 x Beckman Coulter Biomek NXp.
The unit has been powered up and the 'home all axis' program has been executed via the Biomek software.
It appears to run as it should. We have videos of it working.
1 x Thermo Cytomat Microplate Hotel with manual.
The unit powers up fine. The Cytomat has been 'initialized' and has had various commands executed via the Cytomat 6000 software. It appears to run as it should. (note that P1 on the multi cable is COM3 on the PC).

1 x Jun-Air 40 Liter Compressor with manual.
The unit powers up fine and supplies air to the Biomek as it should. It was tested via the 'Rods up' 'Rods down' control on the Biomek software.
1 x Thermo Scientific ALPS 3000 Automated Microplate Heat Sealer with MGF SIL-EOL 24/50 GF Compressor & manual.
The compressor appears to supply as it should although the ALPS 3000 has a 'low air' warning on it. We were unable to test any further.
The ALPS rear states 6bar of pressure but we could only get the compressor to supply 5bar. This is possibly why it has a 'low air' warning.
1 x BigNeat Robotics Bench Mounted Clean Air Enclosure made in 2007.
The enclosure is in good used cosmetic condition. Though it does have various marks from general use. The enclosure powers up fine, light and fan both work as they should. The Green illuminated switch does not light up for the fan. It is a very common issue and does not affect the operation of the unit.
BigNeat last tested it in 2021.
The enclosure measures:
(External) 210cm L x 100cm W x 168cm H.
(Internal) 202cm L x 92cm W x 116cm H to internal light.
1 x Lenovo ThinkCentre PC with Keyboard, Mouse & Monitor.
Includes a PCi card with a comm breakout cable to control all the systems.
The PC is running Windows XP.
There are Four user accounts setup the passwords have been removed from them all.
The PC has the following software installed:
Beckman Coulter Biomek 3.3.14.
Cytomat 6000.
Plus various other std Windows programs.
Also included are the following software packages on CD:
Beckman Coulter Biomek Tutorials for software version 3.3.
Beckman Coulter Install Disk BIOMEK SYSTEM Version 3.3 Build 14.
Beckman Coulter Accounts & Permissions Version 3.0.
Beckman Coulter Recovery DVD.
There are some spares included. We do not know the operational condition of them.
