Hello and welcome to this buy-it-now sale for this Leitz Wetzlar Polaroid Camera.

 

This unique scientific instrument is in superb condition. It appears to be collaborative production between Polaroid, world-leading microscope manufacturer Leitz Wetzlar, and world-renowned surgical instruments manufacturer Down Bros.

 

This unit comes in the original Down Bros case, with instruction sheet in German. It was collected during a clearout of an old University store-room in a medical school where it had sat for many years.

 

The Leitz Wetzlar unit includes a 360 degree rotational microscope piece connected to a polaroid camera allowing photos to be taken. The engineering on this unit is exceptional. Even the ‘photo’ button is interesting as it resembles a biopsy kit.

 

The instruction sheet reads

 

‘Achtung

 

Die Verriegelung im etui ist nur zur fixierung der Kamera gedacht.

 

Fur den Postversand mub die Kamera vom Deckel her abgepolstert warden (Styroporplatte oder Schaumstoffpolster). Sie soll durch dieses Polster zwischen Boden und Deckel fest eingespannt sein.’

 

Which translates to:

 

The locking in the case is intended for fixation of the camera.  Fur mub mailing Camera warden cushioned from the lid ago (Styrofoam plate or foam pad). They should be firmly clamped by this cushion between the base and lid.

 

The box itself is exceptional as it is made by Down Bros who are well-renowned with antique specialists for their surgical instruments. There are multiple fixes to hold the camera unit in place.

 

Inside the box is also a spare complex 10x lens, and a cable.
