This system is sold on behalf of a Client. It is surplus to requirement.
The facility was commissioned in 1999 by Lola Cars to deliver advanced aerodynamic testing for race and road cars. It has an extensive history of use by leading motorsport and automotive brands including Mazda, Toyota F1, Aston Martin, Bentley, MG (Le Mans Car) and Scania Trucks. Typical rental rates for external users have been around £7,000 per day.
A major upgrade project was completed between late 2023 and mid-2024, bringing the wind tunnel to the very latest standards of aerodynamic testing. The upgrade preserved the tunnel’s proven aerodynamic performance while introducing the latest control systems, data handling capabilities, and automation features.
Key upgrade highlights include:
- New EtherCat-enabled control architecture for all major systems
- Cosworth Diablo control software providing automated sequencing, Constant Motion Testing, advanced data acquisition, and integration with MATLAB and Pi Toolbox
- Rolling Road and Boundary Layer Suction System fully upgraded for precision airflow control
- Enhanced Model Motion System (MMS) with improved speed, power, and positional accuracy for realistic simulation of track and road conditions
- Turntable synchronisation with MMS for accurate cornering simulations
- Upgraded pressure scanning system with 384 high-speed, high-resolution channels
- Aerotech overhead balance integrated with EtherCat for improved force measurement precision
- Split high-speed network infrastructure for secure facility control and data handling
The wind tunnel is available for purchase with or without its 1,200 m² purpose-built building:
- £2.153 million – wind tunnel only
- £2.563M million – wind tunnel with building
It has been used very lightly over the past three years and is ready for continued use in motorsport, automotive R&D, and advanced aerodynamic applications.

This item is sold on behalf of a client where it is surplus to requirements.
This system is in good cosmetic condition and in complete working order.
It has been under a Thermo Fisher service contract since installation in January 2018, with annual preventative maintenance checks. The most recent service was carried out on 09/10/2023, and the chiller was repaired in January 2025. The system was taken out of use shortly after in preparation for installation of a new TEM.

Cryobox (installed)
Single tilt sample holder
Fischione room temperature tomography holder (±70° tilt range, available for inclusion)
Air-cooled water chiller
Two computers: one for microscope operation and one networked support PC for remote engineer access
The system has been professionally decommissioned and prepared for transport. It is ready for reinstallation by a suitably qualified transmission electron microscope service provider.
A recommendation for a trusted recommissioning specialist can be provided upon request, with on-site setup available at an additional cost.
