Automated Cohesion Tester (Custom Built Coal Testing System)

This item was removed from a facility where it was surplus to requirement.

This is a custom-built automated cohesion tester, previously used for field testing of coal materials. The system is designed to perform consolidation and uniaxial unconfined testing on coal samples.

The unit is fitted with a load cell rated at approximately 1–2 kN and includes a Siemens control unit with step controller. Please note; the control system requires programming and setup.

This system was originally built for the Coal Authority, with a limited number of similar units produced.

IP5X / IP6X Dust Test Chamber, 1000L

This system is being offered for sale on behalf of a client due to being surplus to ongoing requirements at The National Robotarium, Edinburgh.

The unit is an IP5X / IP6X dust chamber with a 1000L test volume, intended for dust ingress testing of products and assemblies under controlled conditions. Equipment of this type is commonly used for environmental simulation and ingress protection testing where repeatable exposure to circulating dust is required for product development, qualification and compliance work.

According to the client, the chamber is in very good used condition and close to new in appearance and working order. It was rarely used between 2022 and 2026, with fewer than 20 recorded uses, and no issues or faults logged. The client has advised that the chamber has not been recalibrated since original purchase, however no loss of calibration has been identified. Routine internal maintenance and periodic quick runs every two weeks were reportedly carried out in accordance with the user manual. No external maintenance record is available.

No further testing has been carried out by us.

Cryomagnetics Inc 12T Horizontal Superconducting Magnet with CS-4 & LM-500

It is a 12T horizontal superconducting magnet with a 120mm diameter bore. The magnet features a high homogeneity central region, previously used for FT-ICR mass spectrometry measurements, and is also suitable for small-scale MRI applications. It is actively shielded with a low fringe field and incorporates a liquid helium cooled coil with an outer liquid nitrogen shield dewar.

The previous owner stated it is in full working order. The system has been refilled and maintained continuously over its lifetime with no issues and no quenches outside of training during charging.

The previous owner stated that they believed the unit may have had a diesel leak, which is why it was taken out of service.

Diesel is used for the heating element only; the main unit operates via a standard 240V 3-pin mains plug. The machine starts and has passed a PAT test. No further testing has been conducted.

The high-pressure hose is included but is heavily soiled from previous use. The unit has been cleaned as best as possible and is likely in better cosmetic condition beneath remaining dirt.

This system was removed from a university where it was surplus to requirement.

Both units are in good cosmetic condition and powered up.

Working when previously in use, password protected by Cytiva so cannot be tested by ourselves, reset through Cytiva will be required by next user, this cannot be done pre-sale as it will form part of the servicing contract agreement. Cytiva have been contacted and are happy to do this post-sale.
